Epoxy Resin 101: Work with Resin for Beginners

How to Work With Resin for Beginners

Diving into the mesmerizing world of epoxy artistry? Whether you’re inspired by the vibrant jewelry pieces you've seen or the intricacies of tumbler designs, beginning with resin might seem a bit daunting. But with the right guidance and high-quality products, you can create masterpieces. Let's embark on this journey together and cover some of the basics.

Mastering the Mix: How Do I Mix and Measure Resin?

Resin's beauty emerges when it’s measured and mixed correctly. The secret? A perfect balance. If you’re using Liquid Art by KSRESIN, the task becomes effortless, thanks to its beginner-friendly 1:1 mixing ratio and long working time. Liquid Art is a medium viscosity (thickness) which is extremely easy to measure and mix.

You will start by pouring one component (Resin) into a graduated mixing cup. Then you'll follow by pouring the second component (Hardener) into the graduated mixing cup in an equal volume. For example: Start by pouring 1oz of resin into the mixing cup, follow by pouring 1oz of hardener into the same mixing cup.

Now that you've accurately measured the two components you will need to mix them very well. Use a stir stick and go in a circular motion to combine the two ingredients. While mixing be sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the container multiple times to prevent any unmixed epoxy resin. Continue mixing for 2-3 minutes or until there are no longer noticeable ribbons and the epoxy resin turns back to clear. There may be some bubbles from mixing, but this is nothing to worry about!

Measuring and mixing are the most crucial parts of a successful epoxy resin project and ensure that you don't experience issues like epoxy tackiness, soft epoxy, or epoxy resin that stays liquid.
